A sleeve slides along the webbing to wherever the strap meets something that would cut it. It protects the strap from the load and the load from the strap, and it moves with the strap instead of having to be held in place.
Rubber for general work, nylon where it has to slide easily or the edge is more abrasive than sharp. Select styles also fit web slings, wire rope slings and chain slings, so the same box covers the rigging as well as the cargo control.

Sleeve or corner protector?
A sleeve guards a length of webbing against abrasion — rubbing on a rough surface, dragging across a deck. A corner protector guards against a hard edge that would cut the strap outright, and it also spreads the strap’s pressure so it does not dent the cargo. On a crate or a coil you often want both: the protector on the corner, the sleeve wherever the strap runs over something else.
