G-417 Closed Spelter Sockets

G-417 Closed Spelter Sockets

Features

  • Spelter socket terminations have an efficiency rating of 100%, based on the catalog strength of the wire rope.
  • Forged steel through 1‑1/2”; cast alloy steel 1‑5/8” through 4”.
  • Ratings are based on use with 6×7, 6×19 or 6×37 rope, IPS or XIP (EIP), XXIP (EEIP), RRL, fibre core or IWRC.
  • Strand with very few wires — 1×7, say — needs the basket length checked: five times the strand diameter or fifty times the wire diameter, whichever is greater.
  • All cast steel sockets 1‑5/8” and larger are magnetic particle and ultrasonically inspected. Proof testing on special order.
  • Closed grooved sockets meet Federal Specification RR‑S‑550F, Type B, except those provisions required of the contractor.

† Cast alloy steel. Pin diameter (D) must not exceed the pin used on the companion G‑416 socket.

Ultimate load is a break figure for the fitting, not a working load limit. Apply the design factor the job calls for — 5:1 for most overhead lifting.

We pour sockets in Hatfield with resin and proof test the finished assembly. Send us the rope and the socket, or let us supply both. More on socket pouring.
